What counts as a token here

Billable tokens are uncached input, cache creation and output tokens. Cached reads are excluded, because serving a token from cache costs almost no compute.

The same count drives the bill and the carbon figure, so the tokens you pay for are the tokens you report.

Retirement does not move the number

Usage-based billing retires verified credits that Crbon Labs originates, against the footprint you measured. The measured figure is reported unchanged beside the receipt, so an auditor sees both.

It measures the tokens, electricity, carbon and water of every source you connect, for up to 5 team members, with no card and no time limit, on every surface: the dashboard, the CLI, the SDKs, the MCP server, the browser extension and the API. What it does not include is the proof layer. Signed carbon receipts, audit packs, trust assets and credit retirement are on usage-based billing.

  • A one-time setup fee of $1.99 when you turn it on, then $0.10 per million billable tokens, metered and billed monthly on what you used. There is no monthly fee, no quota and no tier. A team that uses 500 million tokens in a month pays $50 for that month; a team that uses none pays nothing.

  • Billable tokens are uncached input, cache creation and output tokens. Cached reads are excluded, because serving a token from cache costs almost no compute. The count runs over a monthly billing period, and the dashboard shows where you stand.

  • No. There is no quota to go over and no second rate past a line. Every billable token in the month is charged at the same rate, rounded up to the cent, and the rate is recorded on the charge when the period closes, so a later change to the rate does not touch a billed period.

  • Yes. CrbonFree is available through AWS Marketplace for teams that want the charges on their AWS bill and through their existing procurement. Large volumes can be contracted on custom terms instead of metered usage.

  • No. Retirement is part of usage-based billing, and it does not change the measured footprint. Crbon Labs originates its own verified credits and retires them against your number, with a signed receipt listing the serial numbers on the American Carbon Registry or the BCarbon Registry.
